The short answer
Make the opening safe first, then get the glass replaced and the paperwork sorted. Most standard glass replacements in Krugersdorp are same-day. We do not run your insurance claim for you, but we replace the glass fast and give you all the documentation your insurer needs to process it.
What to do in the first hour
Make it safe. If glass is still in the frame, do not try to pull large shards out with your hands. Clear loose pieces carefully and keep children and pets away from the area.
Secure the opening. A broken window is an open invitation and a weather risk. If it cannot be glazed immediately, the opening should be boarded up. We offer emergency board-up for break-ins and storm damage so the home is secure while the proper glass is cut or sourced.
Photograph everything before you clean up. This matters for your insurance claim. Take clear photos of the break, the frame, and the surrounding area from a few angles before you touch anything.
How fast can it be fixed?
Most standard clear glass up to 6mm is a same-day replacement because it is common stock. Laminated safety glass, tinted, patterned, or specialty units may need to be sourced, usually within a few working days. Sealed double glazed units that have failed are replaced as a matched unit. What your insurer actually needs
This is where people get stuck. An insurer will not pay out on a vague phone call. To process a glass claim they typically want:
- Photographs of the damage, ideally taken before the repair.
- Measurements of the broken pane or unit.
- A detailed written quotation itemising the glass type, size, and the cost to replace it.
- An invoice once the work is done.

Repair or replace the whole window?
A broken pane does not always mean a new window. If the aluminium or steel frame is sound, re-glazing is usually the cheaper, faster fix. We will assess the frame honestly and only suggest a full replacement if the frame itself is past saving. If you are replacing anyway, it is often the moment to upgrade old steel to modern aluminium windows.
